The term 'layoff' originally was used only for temporary removal from work. Now that the common definition of the term has changed, when a company has a positive outlook and is sure they will rebound financially, temporary layoffs can be given rather than a complete termination. In the case of one happening, a temporary layoff letter is sent out to the employees to be released. The letter will always contain information of the circumstances on which employment will resume. Any further information is dependent on the given organization issuing the letters.
