Job Loss And Health Insurance

Therefore, when an employee loses his job, one consideration he must make for himself and his family is how to supply for their health needs. There are many options. One is applying for coverage on his spouse's company plan. Another option is COBRA, which allows the unemployed to continue to cover his family with the same company health plan. However, the cost of COBRA can be prohibitively expensive, especially if the former employee cannot find new work right away. The unemployed may also find coverage for himself if his joblessness persists, through Medicaid, S-CHIP (for his children), or Medicare (for those over 65 or suffering from certain ailments. A person could also go without any health insurance, which would leave them uncovered in case of any health complications.
